Lesson 4: Literal, Allegorical, Moral, and Anagogical Approaches
- Literal Approach: Focuses on the plain meaning of the text.
- Allegorical Approach: Seeks deeper spiritual meanings behind events (e.g., seeing Christ in Old Testament stories).
- Moral Approach: Extracts ethical teachings applicable to life.
- Anagogical Approach: Interprets Scripture in relation to future, eschatological events.
Example: The Exodus story is understood literally as a historical event, allegorically as salvation through Christ, morally as a lesson on obedience, and anagogically as a foreshadowing of heaven.
